Three Cheers to our DE-MOCK-RACY!!!

Just read this story in Times of India and suddenly my head is high with pride….The largest democracy in the world, secular, socialist republic……blah blah blah…..

I don’t think any amount of time we spend criticizing/fighting such elements is going to change anything….the change must come from within……But I can’t sit still and watch the slow Talibanisation (remember the Bamiyan Buddha? we are fast on course…) of my beloved country.  So, I’ll just leave you with the words of Tagore (a Hindu)…..

Where the mind is without fear
and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been
broken up into fragments by narrow
domestic walls;
Where words come out from
the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its
arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason
has not lost its way into the dreary
desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by
thee into ever-widening thought and
action…
Into that heaven of freedom, my
Father, let my country awake.

  1. How can u do ‘three cheers’? Its against Hindu culture.. Its all borrowed from d west u know.. Remove it or they might as well launch a campaign against u (btw that wud b some fun.. won’t it be?)
    OMG!!! Am i writing in english n expressing myself? Will that be against our culture as well? And using net connection on my laptop sitting in B’lore… dunno how many fanatics am i offending by staying out n using all d ‘videshi’ things..
    What Tagore wrote decades ago dsn’t hold true today.. its all forgotten.. written in troubled times, and wud b misinterpreted & misused only if deemed fit in any useless campaign..
    I initially thought abt creating a chronological a/c of all these stupid campaigns.. bt then on a daily basis these self- claimed guardians of hindu culture launch hundreds of campaigns.. i dont think i wud b able to keep up with their pace, so dropped d idea…
    P.S. Sorry the comment is longer than d original post. Bt cdnt help it…

    P.S. Can’t agree more. Btw it seems, ever since u went to b’lore, Karnataka is on fire…

  2. u know i’d read of a diff perspective of the same story some place else. the guy said that TOI had sensationalized the news. that if they hadn’t put the word ‘christian’ in the title. it wouldnt have been a big deal.

    me: agreed, when I saw the printed version carrying this news item as the top headline on Sunday, I was like, shit, maybe I should have not just believed whatever they said….They did sensationalize the issue but the truth remains, tht we are growing more intolerant as a society…..
