Aage Badho…

Uski frock kuch chamkeeli, kuchh fati maili-kuchli si
Aankhein jaise timtimati chandni, toh kuchh dhundhali si
Hontho par bikhari ek alhad si hansi, lagti kuchh nakli si
Do choti banaye, ghoome hai woh, kuchh sayaani kuchh pagli si

Haathon me liye hai kuchh kitaabein
Jaanti nahi padhna woh ek alfaaaz
Laal batti par taktaki lagaaye hain nigaahein
Kuchh bike, toh khaana khaaye aaj.

Sadak par hi pali badhi, na jaane kya hota hai pyar
Roz subah chal pade kaam par, kya shani kya itvaar
Baarah ki chhoti umar me sambhale hai poora ghar-baar
Do chhoti behen, ek bhai, baap sharabi, maa laachaar.

Achanak aakar ruki ek badi motorcar
Dhue ke chhale udaate dono sawaar
Haatho me N-series mobile
Kapdo se tapakta latest style

Tez aawaz mein bajta remix
Sang unke thahako ki aawaz mix
“Masti hai mastaano ki dilli dilli
Gali hai deewano ki dilli six’

Pichhli seat par baitha ek bachcha
Shakl se hero, akal me kachcha
Lays, kurkure ke packets se dhaka hua
Saara din kha kha kar jaise kuchh thaka hua

Ek haath me kitaabein sambhal, dheere se usne sheesha khatkhataya
Masoom se chehre par Din bhar ki thakaan ka dard ubhar aaya
Sahab ne usse ek ek kitaab ka rate lagwaya
Mol bhaav karte karte achanak ‘galti’ se uske haath par haath lagaya.

Itne me hi ho gayi batti hari
Bohni ki saari umeedein rah gayi dhari ki dhari
Gusse me sahab bole, ‘aye, gaadi ke saamne se hato
Der ho rahi hai humein, chalo aage badho’.

Aage badho? Aage kahan?
Aage badh woh jaaye kahan
Badhne ko aage hai kya uske paas
Aur agar badh bhi gayi toh kya aayega humein raas.

Humare ek aansoo par hai duniya kurbaan
Par kyun uske hazaaro motiyo ka koi mol nahi
Baatein karte hain badi badi India shining ki
Par kyun uske liye, siwaay in do lafzo ke koi bol nahi.

Chalchitro me dekh garibi ka nanga naach(SlumDog Millionaire)
Uthti hai tees dil ke andar
Par kyun dekh sadak par wahi garibi
Ban jaate hum gandhi ke andhe bandar.

Baitha soch raha tha yahi sab
Na jaane batti hari ho gayi kab
Pechhe se horn baja baja chilla rahe the sab
Abe oye darshanik ki aulad, chalo …. ….

  1. As always a brilliant piece of work.. Touching, to say the least.. Marvelous how you converted a common place scene into such a sensitive poem.. Now i guess i hate all the 2-word sentences like “chalta hai”, “aage badho”, “India shining” etc. Good job!! Especially liked the 9th and 10th para..

  2. “Baarah ki chhoti umar me sambhale hai poora ghar-baar
Do chhoti behen, ek bhai, baap sharabi, maa laachaar…”

Incidentally, The protagonist in Anita Desai’s “The Village by the Sea” bears the same characteristics.
(I mean dekh le kisse compare kar raha hoon tujhe)
